I find when she does not move much during the day, I can expect to be noticeably bigger the following day. Well, Al & I notice it, but not many other people do.
Either way, guess who hasn't moved much today?
If anyone cares- Palmer's Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks is AMAZING! Plus, it is really good for dry skin, regardless if the wearer is pregnant or not.
A little place for family & friends far away to follow along with the joys of our parenthood experiences.

Last night
While I was taking my nightly shower I noticed I was lop-sided. This is a common occurrence. She favors my right side and I get a little buldge to the right of my belly button from time to time. Perhaps it is her butt poking out.
When I got upstairs, I checked to see if she had moved. She had. Al and I chatted a bit while looking at my tummy. He then humorously jiggled my tummy. A moment later she kicked. I asked Al if he saw it. He then looked at my tummy and she kicked a couple more times. He saw it!! I then felt her move and she started kicking in a place where neither of us could see.
I think this means that Al knows he can use the baby to torture me now. Mostly because I told him that he woke her up and she was continuing to move. "Good luck getting to sleep then," he said with a smile.

Baby Weekend
This weekend we started two projects. One is mostly my project: the Monkey Quilt. The other is at this point mostly Al's project: the nursery.
Mid-week we emptied the spare bedroom.

After further inspection, we found a small crack along the gabled ceiling and the exterior wall. So Al is trying out his joint compound skills by digging out the crack (and part of the other wall to even out the line) then refilling it.

This will delay us by a week or so in painting, which is okay; we still have time. Color-wise, it will be Behr's Expedition Khaki. It is a neutral color that will last multiple babies and should work really well with the monkey theme.
My project, the Monkey Quilt, is under way. Al found a monkey picture he liked online and I used it to free-hand a paper pattern for the monkey face. (A lot of creative freedom taken.)

I bought fabric with a gift card that my parents gave me for a fabric store. Yesterday, I made a block. I may change the black thread around the mouth to the lighter brown thread. But I kinda like how it makes the mouth "pop." Thoughts/opinions anyone?

Baby Movements
I have three baby movement stories from this week. The first story comes from Monday during the workday:
I was at my desk and I started poking with my left-hand across the top of my belly (near the top of my uterus) for no reason other than I do it often. I passed my belly button then came across a weird bump. The bump was under my skin, rather hard, and was about 2 inches in diameter. I used a couple fingers to push on the bump and not only felt it go in slightly but I felt movement against other parts of my uterus. “Ah-HA… I found you!” I thought. I needed my hand for a couple of minutes to finish up something on the computer, but when I went back down to rub her, she had moved.
Second story comes from Monday night / early Tuesday morning:
I had gotten up for my twice-nightly bathroom run and returned to bed. I got in and laid on my left side. I stayed there for about five minutes before determining that I was not comfortable. I then lay on my back and felt uncomfortable within thirty seconds. My only option then was to lie on my right side. Maybe ten seconds after I got on my right side, I felt her moving to rearrange herself to get comfortable. I thought to myself that it was too early for her to start doing that, but apparently I was wrong. I just can’t wait until her nighttime sleeping rearrangements keep me up. (Please note sarcasm.)
Third comes from my doctor’s visit this morning:
All went fine today, my doctor decided to postpone my cardiologist referral since I was able to stay conscious all month! If I can’t stay conscious for the next 4 weeks, then I will be forced to see a cardiologist to ensure that there is not something else going on that making me pass out. Her heartbeat was easy to find and was 150 BMP. My doctor measured my tummy (21 cm), which was right on target. She then felt around my uterus, got her hand on either side of it, and jostled it around a little bit. Once she stopped and removed her hands, I could feel the little one moving all over the place. I think it was one of those, “Oh my god… earthquake! Quick, seek cover!” moments for her.

“Are you shitting me?”
I promised in my first post that I would tell all of you how we found out that we were pregnant. So, here it goes.
I had always imagined that I would skip my period, take a pregnancy test, have it turn pink, or get a double line, or have it say “yes” or “congratulations you are a winner,” or have streamers fall from the heavens, or do whatever it is that they do when hCG is present. I imagined I would surprise Al with the news by arranging a little basket filled with baby items, and the pregnancy test, then put it on the bathroom sink for when he would come home from work. He would see it and we’d sing and clap and dance all around. Sigh. Yeah, it didn’t happen that way! (I am getting used to things not happening the way I imagine them.)
Any who, the real way it happened:
I kinda somewhat skipped my period. After which I took a pregnancy test that very bluntly stated, “Nope, no hCG here!” Then I spotted a week later. This was not abnormal for me. My body, like the rest of my maternal side of the family, is “special.” Al and I had been trying for 11 months however we have not been preventing pregnancy since I was in graduate school. Since we were trying, my family history, and the massive amount of pain I was in during my cycle, I found a doctor that could help put together what was going on. (The first doctor I saw said the pain was all in my head. My current doctor is my “second opinion” doctor and I like her a lot more.) Everything was pointing to endometriosis, but we started with some of the less invasive infertility tests. Hormone levels were fine, Al checked out, and my tubes were not blocked. Which then led us to the more invasive test- to surgically go in and look for endometriosis. That surgery was scheduled for September 23rd.
I had my pre-op appointments on the 22nd at my doctor’s office and at the hospital. Since I somewhat skipped, but not really, my doctor had the hospital do a pregnancy test. I peed in the cup knowing that I had already tested negative and had no doubt in my mind that it had been wrong.
Al & I went to bed early that night, since I was scheduled to be at the hospital at 6 AM or some other ridiculous hour in the morning. But we also went to bed early because Stone Brewing had just started distributing in Georgia and we had been to the Taco Mac in mid-town for the festivities. Al was there for seven or eight hours and I was there for only a fraction of that. Needless to say, I was in bed by the time Mr. McStumbles came home.
At 9:45 PM, I got a call from a private number. It was my doctor. The conversation went something like this:
(Hellos and introductions exchanged.)
Doc: “Well, I am calling because I just got a call from the hospital… and your pregnancy test came back positive.”
Me: “Really!?!”
Doc: “Yes.”:
(A few more lines of conversation are exchanged regarding the positive test.)
Me, returning to my shocked state: “Wait, are you shitting me!?!”
Doc, (Laughing): “No, no I am not. It looks like we won’t be doing surgery tomorrow after all.”
(Conversation progresses and we agree to meet at the office in the morning to do an ultrasound to determine how far along in the pregnancy we were.)
Mr. McStumbles was groggy in bed when I got off the phone. I crawled on the bed and kneeled next to him. I whispered, “You can sleep in tomorrow a little bit because the surgery was canceled.” He mumbled, “Why?” “Because we are pregnant,” I said back. “YAY!” he said as he suddenly came to life and wrapped his arms around me, “That’s great!”
The week 5 day 5 ultrasound pictures on the Shutterfly Account were the result of that first appointment. My Doc thought we were only four weeks though and gave us a due date of June 2nd. At our next appointment, four weeks later, my Doc corrected herself and said that she estimated that we were then 9 weeks 5 days, which made our due date a week and a half earlier. The last appointment we went to, we saw my Doc’s partner, who based our pregnancy off my last period and gave us an even earlier due date!
The dates in the blog are based off my calculations based on the second appointment’s estimate. I feel as if it is the one that is most accurate based on what has happened. In the end, the fact of the matter is that the little one will come when she is damn ready to come! Which will be... (shrug).

New Year’s Celebrations
So, we were very excited about the New Year coming! Yup, we celebrated by going to bed at 9:30. Since I am such a light sleeper, I actually woke up to the neighbors (and their kids) yelling out the count down. (Our bedroom is only about 6 feet from our neighbor’s back deck.) I heard their little noisemakers and was happy when they tuckered themselves out after 30 seconds of screaming. “Yay, time to fall back asleep!” I thought as I rolled over. Then our neighborhood and the neighborhood behind us exploded with fireworks! “Groan!”
