Laine did the oddest thing yesterday. She asked to use the potty FOUR TIMES! Each time she went pee in her potty. Why am I so surprised? She isn't even 18 months old yet people! This is young, even if it is a temporary thing. She even knows how to use toilet paper... kinda.
Trent's cold is waking him up at night. His nose gets clogged and he wakes up. Poor thing. Oh wait, I mean poor parents! He has had this cold for most of his out-of-womb life.
While my children look more like me than Al, I have discovered some traits that Trent has not gotten from me. Snoring and farting. Both typically done while asleep. Yup, not my genetics at all. I am not saying who he has gotten these from, I am just simply stating that it is not from me.
A cute thing- When Laine hears Trent cry, she puts her finger to her mouth and says, "Shh!"
Another cute thing- Laine has done an excellent job adjusting to Trent's presence in the house. She likes to gently rest her head on Trent and smile.
A funny- Al was in the kitchen and I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth. I heard Laine laugh, so I went into the living room to see why she was laughing. I found her kneeling over Trent, who was in the swing, and Laine was wiping Trent's face with a baby wipe. Trent had his hands up in the air and was shaking his head back and forth. He had a "what in the world is going on" look on his face. Laine enjoys carrying a baby wipe around. She uses them to wipe up her snotty nose, wipe down flat surfaces, and wipe the floor. Apparently she thought that Trent's face was in need of a wipe down too.
Another funny- Laine's newest most-frequently-used-phrase is "Oh no!" She uses it when she sees a mess. (Another trait that does not come from mommy.) When she says it, she puts her arms out to her sides with her palms face up. When she gets down from her highchair and sees the food she dumped? "Oh no!" When she dumps her toys on the floor? "Oh no!" When she sees a dust bunny on the floor? "Oh no!" It really is quite hilarious.
A little place for family & friends far away to follow along with the joys of our parenthood experiences.

Cord
Most of Trent's umbilical cord fell off today. Not sure why I am telling all of you, but it is something that I want to remember a year or two down the road.
Also, I have been peed on several times today. Not because I have had ill-timed diaper changes, but because it has been leaking through Trent's newborn diapers. I have had to change both of our outfits several times. Looks like he needs to be put in size 1 already. I am sure I will be able to find a happy home to the rest of the newborn size diapers.

Feet!
Trent can now bare to have his feet uncovered. From birth, if his feet were uncovered he would cry. Touch his feet? Oh, watch out! Now he can have them uncovered and he won't cry. But he is still very ticklish. Let's not tickle him while he sleeps though, please? A cranky baby is not fun.

Overdue Entry
Trent had his first doc appointment today. He is a little guy, but he is doing very well.
Weight: 7 lbs 15 oz.
Height: 20 1/2 "
Head Circum: 14"
Trent has been a very easy baby thus far. He only cries when he wants something. We have had an easy time determining what that something is. He does not like his feet exposed and really loves being swaddled. He also laughs in his sleep.
Yesterday and today we have noticed that he is able to track voices. The doctor today said hello to him and he turned his head to her. "Oh, wow," she said with her eyebrows raised. "Yeah, I know," I responded, "we just noticed that he was tracking yesterday."
Laine is living up to her big sister name. She gets very concerned when Trent cries and comes running to his side. She also brings him gifts, like blankets and toys and puts them on his lap. She learned how to give "nice pets" to the kitties and has applied those same skills to touching Trent. Trent has received many head rubs.
The Milk Factory is up and running. I am up to 50-60 ounces a day. Of that, Trent is taking in about 25 ounces. Therefore the stock-pile in the freezer is slowly growing. Trent's latch was great, however, once my milk came in nursing became too painful to handle. I think my milk ducts go lower than they should and that the tips of several ducts end up in Trent's mouth when he latches correctly. Note- OUCH! The hard ducts caused his latch to slip which resulted in even more pain and made me bleed. So, that is why I have moved to pumping again. It is great that I don't have to be accessible to him 24/7 for his every hunger need. The flip side is that pumping 4-6 times a day takes a lot of time out of my schedule. Not just the time of actual pumping but the washing of the equipment, preparing bottles, washing bottles, freezing milk, etc. I think it comes to 6 hours a day over the course of a 24 hour period. But breast milk is best for Trent and the time it takes to get it to him is worth it.

Induction- GO!
I just had the pleasure of putting a tiny little chalky pill under my tongue at 11 AM. So far it seems to be bringing on the contractions more and harder. Damn, my tail bone hurts.
Any who, I am 3.5 cm and people here don't seem to think that things will take long. I seriously hope they are right!

Doc Appt and Subsequent Hospital Visit
I have been awake for the past couple of hours, so I figured it’d be a good time to update this.
I had my last doc appointment yesterday. Afterwards we were sent to the hospital for a non-stress test and an ultrasound to determine if Trent was having any signs of distress. If anything did not come out perfect, we were going to be induced right then and there. His heart was monitored for about an hour and a half to two hours (non-stress test). The amount of amniotic fluid was measured. His muscle tone was examined. His breathing was recorded. Etc. He passed the non-stress test with flying colors and he got an 8 out of 8 on the other test that was done with the ultrasound. All this means that we can go a couple more days before having to induce. *phew* Although I was again offered induction out of convenience, which I turned down.
The plan from here is to call my doc office tomorrow so that they can schedule induction with the hospital. It will either be Thursday or Friday. I am leaning towards Friday and I think my doc is leaning towards Thursday. It is very odd. We are planning our son’s birthday. It seems… weird. Any who, MY plan is for him to come as late as possible since he is doing just fine inside me and there is no reason to panic. However, there is a window of time on Fridays where cord blood cannot be donated since it has to be shipped to CA. Having Trent’s cord blood thrown away when it could be used to save someone’s life is just not an option. So maybe induction on Thursday evening would be best. We will see. Al has to look at his work calendar and wants to schedule it around a meeting and some work. I also have some reports that I want to get done at work that can only be done after Wednesday. I would say sorry to Trent, but he also wants to put it off too.
Stats from Doc Appt-
Dialated: 3 cm
Effacement: “Very very thin”
Engagement: -1
Heart rate: 120s
While laying down at the hospital being hooked up to the fetal heart monitor and contraction-thingy, it reminded me of how Laine hated being hooked up to them. She fought and kicked at them. Trent? Yup, not a care in the world. The ultra sound tech was trying to get him to move for the muscle tone test. He did not care at all that she was poking him. He did wiggle around a bit during the doc appointment when my doc was checking me and she was poking his head. The ultra sound tech had to go on to other parts of the test and return to the muscle tone part when he felt like waking up.
Laine has apparently entered her twos (developmentally) already. Hissy-fits? Check. Doing things she knows she is not supposed to do (while saying, “No no no no” while doing it)? Check. All I have to say is, that’s my daughter! We just have to ensure that we provide her with clear and consistent boundaries, with clear and consistent rules. So grandparents beware, spoiling is okay but rules and boundaries must be upheld. Our daughter is too intelligent for those shenanigans.
